Things to do

Just shy of 600,000 people, Portland, Oregon is the largest city between San Francisco and Seattle. In Portland, it’s easy to find limitless recreation, fabulous food and drink and flourishing culture. And, oh yes — the nation’s largest variety of local microbrews! See for yourself, and come early or stay late to enjoy all that Portland has to offer.

The friendly people of Portland look forward to welcoming FCRC in June 2015. Learn more.

An award-winning airport, efficient light rail system and pedestrian-friendly city blocks in the central city make getting around town a real pleasure. Unlike most similar-sized metropolitan areas in the country, you can drive 15 mi (24 km) from downtown and be out in the countryside.

With no sales tax, Portland is also a haven for shoppers. Environmentally friendly practices, such as recycling and an extensive public transportation system, are part of the culture here and fuel many progressive city-planning practices, such as an urban growth boundary, which have made Portland a relatively compact city.

Summer in Portland may be one of the world's best-kept secrets. Days are long and dry, temperatures are comfortably warm, and the city makes the most of these conditions with outdoor celebrations running well into September. Portland has a lovely blend of historic and modern architecture and many lush parks. Vistas of Mt. Hood and the Willamette River, stately Douglas Fir trees, and roses and trees at every turn give the city stunning seasonal color.
